Pregnancy weight gain calculator

Work out the total weight gain range for your pre-pregnancy BMI and the range expected up to your current week; add your current weight to see where you are.

Your details

Pre-pregnancy weight and height are enough; current weight and week are optional.

Pregnancy

Enter your pre-pregnancy weight and height to calculate.

Some countries (e.g. the NHS in the UK) don't use BMI-based ranges; the NHS says most pregnant women gain 10–12.5 kg.

Ranges: US Institute of Medicine (IOM) 2009 recommendations.

About this tool

What is this tool for?

It works out your BMI from your pre-pregnancy weight and height and shows the total weight gain range from the US Institute of Medicine (IOM) 2009 recommendations. Add your week to see the range expected so far, and your current weight to see where you are.

How do I use it?

Enter your pre-pregnancy weight and height and choose one baby or twins. Add your current weight and week if you like; the result updates instantly.

How do I read the result?

A total of 0.5–2 kg is assumed for the first 13 weeks; after that the range grows each week according to your BMI group. Being below or above the range isn't a problem in itself; mention it to your midwife or doctor.

Limits of this tool

It doesn't diagnose or suggest a diet. There's no data for triplets or more. For twins only the total range is given, as the source has no weekly rate. Nothing is saved.
